Wild W-ai-ld West

March 15, 2023

Hello World!

This is the inaugural post of a blog I’ve been trying to start for 10 years. I blame my ADHD.

The year is 2023 and things are starting to look sideways. 2022 was a down year — war, inflation, massive interest rate hikes, a steep downturn in stock markets, chip shortages, increased nationalism, another year with COVID, climate change, and did I mention war? 2023 is better than 2022 was, but we are not out of the woods yet.

There is a lot to feel pessimistic about.

A lot of doomers worry about the future. They are not wrong. Climate change is real. Inflation is not under control yet. Tensions between the US, Russia and China seem to be getting worse. The future is uncertain.

However, one thing makes me optimistic about our future — technology. If anything helps us solve some of our problems, it will be technology. Breakthroughs in carbon capture, material science, and nuclear fusion, for example, will help us tackle climate change. Artificial intelligence is an area of technology that is getting a lot of attention. The last few months have seen an explosion in advancements in AI. This is just the tip of the iceberg. AI will increasingly be used to help solve some of these seemingly intractable problems.

I’m hoping that AI will help me solve some of my own intractable problems. I’ve spent the last 10 years putting off working on a video game that I was developing as well. In that time, I got married, got a dog, bought a house and had 2 kids. So, free time became a scarce resource. Being neuroatypical probably didn’t help get things done efficiently either. As I mentioned before, I have ADHD. I’m not complaining though. I couldn’t be happier. But now I want to pick up where I left off. I am hopeful that some of the new video game development tools out there that use generative AI will help me get things DONE!

And that brings me back to the reason why I started this blog. I am going to document this journey. This blog is going to have more of a focus on how AI can help improve my own productivity. However, I will probably talk about other areas of technology. I will probably talk about anything that interests me and jump from topic to topic as people with ADHD tend to do. So please join me. Because…

We are at an inflection point.

In the next few years, there will be a lot of advancements in artificial intelligence. AI is going to become ubiquitous. Unlike with cryptocurrencies, it is much more obvious how it will change our lives. It is going to help a lot of people get more done. We should all hop on that train. If we don’t, we might get left behind.

This definitely is the wild w-ai-ld west.
